Rolibul Hoque Dipu, Magura,31/05/2026 : Magura cattle fatteners are worried over their unsold cattle. Eid ul Azha passed away . But huge amount of cattle are still under the occupation of fatteners in want of sale . They are apprehending huge loss due to these unsold cattle .
Fatteners sources informed , they fattned 76974 cattle before Eid Ul Azha while the demand was 62506 . That is the district produced 14468 surplus cattle . After Eid about 12000 cattle are going unsold in the district . The price of the cattle is about Tk one hundred core . Unsold cattle of Tk one hundred core has raised grave concern among them .
Chandu Biswas of village Bashkutha under Magura sadar upazila told , I fattened 5 cattle to sell in Eid market . But I am still holding 2 cattle in want of sale . Every day the 2 cattle cost me at least one thousand Tk for their fodder . But how long I shall continue the costing? Omar Ali a fattener of village Akshi under Magura sadar upazila told , I fattened 4 cattle to sell in Eid market . I have sold 2 cattle in Eid market while another 2 are still under my occupation . I took loan from local NGO to fattened the cattle . But I am failing to repay the loan as 2 cattle are still unsold . On the other hand my loan interest is increasing everyday .
Another fattener Abul Kalam of village Jagla under Magura sadar upazila told , huge amount of cattle are still under the occupation of local fatteners in want of sale . Most of them are indebted to NGOs . NGOs are pressuring them to repay the loan . On the other hand fodder costing for the cattle has mounted their frustration . In this situation government should stand by fatteners . Otherwise they may lose their interest in cattle fattening in coming year .
When contacted district veterinary officer Dr Mihir Kanti Biwas told , as surplus cattle were fattened in the district compared to demand cattle may go unsold . However I am not able to mention the exact number of unsold cattle .
