LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam said that urbanization should be in line with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s vision of a developed and smart Bangladesh in 2041. From waste management, sewage disposal, open spaces, playgrounds to population density, planning should be done for a livable Dhaka
and we have to come out of the culture of making arbitrary structures.
At this time, the Minister of Local Government emphasized on the positive mental changes of the citizens and said that the citizens who respect the laws and regulations are the main builders of a developed and smart city.
The minister yesterday said this in his chief guest speech at the opening ceremony of the two-day Dhaka North City Sanitation Trade Fair 2023 at Gulshan. Urging the local public representatives to make the citizens aware of the proper sewage system, he said, it is possible to build a livable Dhaka if everyone has awareness and cooperation.
The minister said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina divided Dhaka city into five catchment areas for sewage disposal in 2012 because poor sewage system is an obstacle to livable Dhaka.
He further said that as our per capita income has increased, our tendency to consume has increased, resulting in a lot of waste and garbage being generated on a daily basis. Stating that 6,000 tons of waste is produced in Dhaka city every day, he said that if this waste is not properly managed, the dream of a livable Dhaka will remain elusive.
At that time, the minister gave the example of the developed world and said that countries like Japan and Singapore once faced such problems and they successfully faced them and built smart cities.
The local government minister said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we will overcome all obstacles and obstacles and realize the dream of a livable Dhaka.
He said that various problems and their solutions have been identified today for the implementation of livable Dhaka. We can reach our desired goals only if the joint efforts and participation of all can establish the link between the problem and the solution.
Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam presided over the event. At this time, a panel discussion was held to solve the sewage system and problems of Dhaka. Organized by the editor of Dainik Bhorer paper, Shyamal Dutt, it was attended by city planners and experts, along with office heads of various organizations providing civic services in Dhaka city.
