Rokibul Hoque Dipu: Dream of Sreekunthi goat rearing people is now revolving around Hygienic goat rearing shed. Sreekunthi is an unborn village under Magura Sadar upazila. Goat rearing in hygienic shed has brought solvency among them. They are now finding goat rearing in hygienic shed as a lucrative business.
Goats are highly vulnerable to damp and cold soil. On the other hand goats can’t tolerate extreme heat. Avoiding these adversities hygienic sheds have been installed in this district for safe and smooth goat rearing.
District live stock office sources informed, they set up a total of 155 hygienic goat shed in four upazila of the district in 2023. From 2020 goat rearing women started micro saving program in group under the supervision of live stock volunteers. Finally in 2023 with their savings and subsidy of live stock department a total of 155 hygienic sheds were set up in the district. Though tk 20 thousand was paid for per shed, shed holder’s refunded Tk, 1000 to 1500 as surplus money. The shed is installed at 1.5 feet height from ground. The floor of the shed is of plastic while roof of tin. Moreover the tinned roofed is equipped with insulator. The shed holds strong fence with GI cable and wood. Goats are highly vulnerable to cold related diseases. For this when they can stay in high platform avoiding damp and wet soil the apprehension of being attacked with cold related diseases like pneumonia and skin disease get reduced to a great extent. At the same time the plastic floor holds several leakages so that urine and filth of goats can fall down on ground through them. Besides the leakages make the cleaning of the floor easy and smooth . On other hand extreme heat causes health hazard to goats. Insulator quipped with roof ensures team prate weather for goats protecting extreme heat.
Rebeka Khatun, village of Sreekunthi said, being encouraged with hygeanic goat rearing shed I tried to get financial support from Magura live stock office for installing this shed. But as I was not a member of local association formed according to the instruction of upazila live stock office I failed to get financial support. But without being disheartened. I set up a shed with self funding. I am rearing goat for about 20 years. But earlier my goats frequently sustained pneumonia, PPR and skin diseases. I am rearing 6 goats in hygienic shed. But my goats never diseases like pneumonia, PPR or sin diseases. Moreover this shed made of strong hence of GI cable is saving my goats from the attack of wild animals.
Monwara Khatun, another shed holder in village Sreekunti told, my goat rearing in hygienic shed launched in 2023. At that time I had only 3 goats. Now number of goats has stood at 10. I have experienced, the goats which are reared in hygienic shed grow rapidly possessing sound Health. Moreover I feel goats reared in hygienic shed are high productive in view of breeding power. As number of goats in my shed is 10 now and they are very strong, they always try to storm the fence by pushing. In fear of storming I have decided to shift some goats to another one. I have already started the installation work of the shed.
When contacted Magura sadar upazila livestock officer Md. Zohurul Islam told, hygeanic shed has raised hope among goat rearing people of Magura. If this shed is installed in the district at a large scale goat rearing people will be enriched with solvency. We are working relentlessly to popularize this hygienic shed.
