 Squash Championship competition inaugurated at Bashundhara Sports City

Staff Reporter: The ‘5th National Squash Championship-2025′ has begun with a grand event at Bashundhara Sports City. It will run from October 13 to 16 and 180 contestants will participate. Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan inaugurated the competition. He said that the way squash has been progressing in the country over the past four years will bring good times ahead.

G. M Kamrul Islam, General Secretary of the Federation, said, the competition is organized with the aim of spreading squash across the country and developing new players, improving the quality of the game, promoting and expanding it, and gradually taking Bangladesh’s squash to international standards.

Fayez Rahman, Urmi Group representative said, Urmi Group will remain involved with the federation in the coming days to promote and expand the game.

Mohsinul Karim, Major (Retd) Director of Bashundhara Sports City said that, Bashundhara Group will stand by the Squash Federation to revive the dying sport of squash in Bangladesh.

For this, Bashundhara Group and the Bangladesh Squash Federation have signed a 5-year agreement. As a result, the players will have the opportunity to use all the facilities of Bashundhara Sports City. They will also have the opportunity to participate at the international level.

The regional phase concluded on October 1 with the participation of 180 competitors from 25 institutions across the country, according to the organizing authority. The title race has begun with the winners and 80 selected players from there. The competition is being held in nine groups. The groups for the final round are – Open Women, Open Men, Open Members, under age of 11, 12 to13 and 14 to15 years’ old boys and girls, separate groups.

The four-day final round competition will be held on a round-robin league basis. The final match and prize distribution will be held at Bashundhara Sports City on October 16 at 3 pm.

The clubs and institutions participating in the final round are East West University, United International University, IUB, Mirpur Ideal Commerce College, BAF Shaheen College, Bhashantek Government College, Mirpur Bangla College, Shaheed Anwar College, Bhashantech School, Kalshi Islamia High School, Golden Bangla Ideal School, Fatema Aziz School, Jamuripara School, Thakurgaon, Mirpur Cantonment Public School and College, Nirjhar Cantonment Public School, Kalachandpur School and College, Uttara Club, Gulshan Club, Chittagong Club, Habiganj High School, Uttara Police College and Dhaka Squash Academy.

The open men’s group included Sumon and Arif from Uttara Club, Saikat from Gulshan Club, Saiful from Chittagong Club, Saimun, Parvez, Aminul from BKSP, and Roni, Shahadat, Masum, Apon, Rakib, Aziz, Nayeb, Sajjat ​​and Sharif from Army.

Girls’ group are Urdu and Jyoti from IUB, Rafia from Shaheed Anwar College, Nabila from Nirjhar School, Chandni Sarkar from Uttara Police College, and Fahmida and Meghna from Bhashantech School, Golden Bengal School’s meme and open member group includes Fazle Wali, Walid Hasan, Zakir Md. Hossain, Md. Abu Kaiser, Ashiqur Rahman, Md. Raihan, Bri, J, Aziz, Md. Ahsan, Lt. Col. Sams, Mohamen Haque Alif, Bri, J, Asad, Sadman Uddin Khan, Barrister Sarwar and Md. Mobin will fight for excellence in their respective groups for the next four days.
