Microcredit a powerful tool for poverty alleviation and sustainable social development-  Md. Abdul Based Khan, executive director (SRC )

Holiday Post: Social Rehabilitation Center (SRC) is working mainly in social development with community based services activities. We have a positive outlook with opportunities for growth and greater social impact. Current government policies and regulations provide a necessary framework for transparency, accountability and good governance. However, Compliance requirements and regulatory procedures sometimes create operational challenges and additional costs. We believe sportive and simplified regulations would help organizations improve their sustainability and effectiveness. Said, Md. Abdul based khan, Executive Director of Social rehabilitation center discussed on various NGOs issues with “Holiday Post” recently.

He concerned that, Microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Bangladesh are facing a multitude of challenges, such as rising operating costs, complexities in loan recovery, intense competition, inflation, declining borrower repayment capacity, the availability of affordable funds, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The situation could have been made easier. Consequently, this would have impacted the institutions’ service delivery operations and long-term sustainability.

We strive to incorporate sustainability and responsible lending practices by assessing customers’ repayment capacity, avoiding over-indebtedness, ensuring transparent loan terms, promoting financial awareness, and providing customer-centric services. ‍also we measure the impact through loan repayment performance, customer retention, portfolio quality, customer feedback, and improvements in customers’ livelihoods and income, he point out.

Khan added, we believe that by strengthening financial stability, enhancing digital and financial inclusion, reinforcing responsible lending practices and diversifying funding sources, investing in staff capacity building, leveraging technology to reduce operating costs and strengthen risk management, and ensuring robust governance and regulatory compliance, we can enable the microfinance sector to create a positive impact on society.

He also added, we are prioritizing responsible microcredit delivery, strengthening risk management, controlling operational costs, investing in digital technology and staff skill development, and maintaining transparency and good governance. We also encourage them to adapt to changing economic and regulatory conditions while maintaining a customer-centric, flexible, and innovative mindset.

He expressed firm conviction, we believe that access to microcredit, savings, and other financial services not only improves the quality of life and resilience of low-income families against adversity but—when managed responsibly—can also serve as a powerful tool for financial inclusion, poverty alleviation, and sustainable social development, thereby helping to curb inflation.
