Staff Reporter: Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC Bangladesh Operations has officially opened its new DEPZ Sub-Branch and Offshore Banking Unit (OBU). The inauguration ceremony took place at the new premises on May 12, 2026, marking another significant step in the Bank’s continued expansion and commitment to facilitating global trade.
The new Sub-Branch and OBU was officially inaugurated by Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Najith Meewanage, alongside the Executive Director of Dhaka EPZ, Mr. Md. Shariful Islam. The ceremony was also graced by the Bank’s senior leadership team, including Deputy CEO & Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Haily Algewatte; Deputy CEO & Head of Corporate Banking, Mr. Mahmud Hossain.
The opening event was well-attended by several corporate clients, local business leaders, DEPZ Officials and members of the Bank’s staff.
Strategically located to serve the robust industrial and commercial sector of the Dhaka Export Processing Zone, the new Sub-Branch and Offshore Banking Unit is equipped to provide comprehensive, specialised financial solutions.
This new unit of the Bank is equipped to provide specialized offshore banking solutions, seamless general banking services, and tailored trade finance facilities to support export-oriented industries and contributing to Bangladesh’s economic growth through these enhanced services.
