Rokibul Hoque Dipu , Magura ,April 24, Number of measles patients is rising in Magura . Every day children with measles infection are coming to the hospitals . On the other hand experienced circle is blaming long time gap in measles prevention vaccination for the outbreak of measles .
Magura 250 bed hospital sources informed , 3 children with measles infection got admitted into the hospital for the first time on March 17 . At present the hospital 22 measles patients are taking treatment in the hospital . In the meantime 14 measles children have left the hospital after recovery .
Social worker and executive director of ISADO a voluntary organization told , measles prevention vaccination campaign was run in the country in 2020 for the last time . After that no campaign was run in the country . Long time gap in measles prevention vaccine is the main reason behind the outbreak .
Humayan Kabir president of Magura district traders association told , the measles prevention vaccination campaign was scheduled to be held in 2024 . But the campaign was not run . This is the only reason behind this suffering and death of children . Those who are responsible for this negligence should be punished . .
Mohiuddin of village Akshi under Magura sadar upazila told , father of measles patient in Magura 250 bed hospital told , we are not getting all the medicines from the hospital .I have purchased many medicine from pharmacy outside of the hospital .
Another Golam Robbani of village Binodpur under Mohammadpur upazila of Magura father of another measles patient in 250 bed hospital told , many guardians are not able to purchase medicine form pharmacy . Their children are deprived from proper treatment as the hospital is not providing them with every medicine .
Public health specialist Dr Abdullahel Kafi associate professor of Magura medical college told , we are hopeful the measles vaccination campaign starting from today ( May 20 ) will be effective to control the outbreak of measles . He added taking of nutritious food can develop the measles prevention power of children . He suggested more and more vitamin A and B enriched food for children . Measles is a highly contagious disease . 12 to 16 children may be infected by measles with the cough of a measles patient . So we should maintain necessary safety to avoid this contagious disease .
When contacted district civil surgeon Md Shamim Kabir admitted , the measles vaccination campaign scheduled for 2024 was not run in the country . He added we are providing the measles attacked children with the medicines as much as we are getting . The children are getting many important medicines including antibiotic . However measles situation in the district is under our control
